Fenomen je barem dijelom uvjetovan i promjenom optike kojom je stara rock kritika čitala ABBA-u te prepoznala njihov pop rafinman, iznimno uspjele stilizacije i poigravanje s tako raznorodnim žanrovima kakav su gypsy-pop (‘Chiquita’, ‘Fernando’), disco (‘Gimme Gime’), folk… Nekoć su bili kod tvrdokorne rock kritike shvaćeni kao metafora banalne pop konfekcije, saharinskih refrena i goleme komercijalne uspješnosti no već u devedesetima stvari su se promijenile. No ‘fenomen’ ABBA-e i nekoć i danas (nakon filmova ‘Mamma Mia’) mnogo je jednostavniji – pitke i pjevljive skladbe, ispoliran image dvaju pjevačica (‘hladne’ nordijske ljepotice Agnethe i drsko seksipilne crvenokose Fride), iznimno dobar menagement producenta, koautora i poslovnoga genija Stiga Stikkana Andersona (jednog od najplodnijih švedskih hit-makera) te dakako – i savršene melodije. Koje su – eto jedne paralele – bile (i ostale) rasni pop i po mjeri Beatlesa. Uostalom takva su bila dva najavna singla s njihovog netom objavljenog povratničkog albuma ‘Voyage’ koja su napalila stare i nove fanove. Zlatko Gall za Mixer.
