Znanstvenici sa Saint Vincent Collegea razvili su način da ostatke kruha pretvore u visokokvalitetne ugljične elektrode, nudeći ekološku alternativu metalima. Njihov proces uključuje oblikovanje ili mljevenje kruha u prah, stvarajući čvrste elektrode bez potrebe za dopiranjem. Ova inovacija ne samo da smanjuje otpad od hrane, već i snižava troškove kapacitivnih deionizacijskih sustava, istovremeno poboljšavajući kontrolu nad površinskim svojstvima elektroda.
